An honest RXBAR review to go over the pros, cons, and variety of this unique brand.
I’ve tried my fair share of the vast array of protein bars over the last few years. Some can satisfy a sweet tooth, but offer little in regards to nutrition. And then there are those rare gems that somehow craft the perfect balance of delicious and healthy.
If you’re looking for a clean eating option you can’t go wrong with an RXBAR. The simple and clean ingredients truly do set this one apart from the rest.

RXBAR Review
My desire in writing this RXBAR review is to be completely transparent with you about the benefits and drawbacks of this brand. Although eating fresh and wholesome foods is ideal whenever possible, there are times when it’s not entirely convenient. Grab and go snacks and meal options do come in handy from time to time.
RXBARS are one of the top in the industry for good reason. They offer a variety of protein bar flavors (14 to be exact) as well as a few additional products. Their current protein bar flavors offer a little something for every palate:
- Chocolate Sea Salt
- Blueberry
- Coconut Chocolate
- Peanut Butter Chocolate
- Maple Sea Salt
- Banana Chocolate Walnut
- Chocolate Raspberry
- Vanilla Almond
- Lemon
- Peanut Butter & Berries
- Mint Chocolate
- Chocolate Chip
- Pumpkin Spice
Whoever invented the peanut butter chocolate combination is my hero, so naturally my personal favorite bar on the list is the PB Chocolate. These original bars typically consist of 4 main ingredients- egg whites, almonds, cashews, and dates as well as a few extra natural ingredients for each specific flavor.
You won’t find 5 syllable words or a long ingredient list on the back of these. Just a few simple clean ingredients is all it takes to make a delicious and filling protein packed snack.
RXBAR recently introduced two new types of bars- Layers and Plant. Layers use the same basic ingredient list, but add a crunchy element, while Plant are vegan friendly and void of egg. In place of egg you’ll find oats and pea protein which gives these bars a softer, almost cookie like texture. These are a great change of pace and might just be my new favorite! RXBAR minis (half the size of the originals) and RX Kids are also great options to try!
Additional RXBAR Products
Not only does this great company have some of the best protein bars out there, they also offer a few additional healthy products. Their five nut butters can be purchased in jars or single serve packets. They also have two cereal and four oatmeal cup varieties for a quick and healthy breakfast.

Are RXBARS Nutritious?
So are RBARS nutritious? The short answer is yes! They do contain a decent amount of sugar (around 12 grams) which may steer some people away, but the good news is that every single gram of that sugar is natural- coming from the dates. The average RXBAR contains around 210 calories with 10-12 grams of protein.
For a breakdown of nutrients let’s take a look at the benefits of each of the four main ingredients- egg whites, almonds, cashews, and dates.
Egg whites are considered a complete protein which means they contain all nine essential amino acids that are bodies need to thrive. Their high protein content is especially helpful for repairing muscles after an intense workout. They are also low in calories and fat.
Almonds contain a good amount of fiber which aids in digestion, as well as protein, manganese, magnesium, and vitamin E (an antioxidant that helps support a healthy immune system, vision, and skin).
Like almonds , cashews are also high in fiber, manganese, and magnesium, as well as copper and heart healthy fats that can help lower cholesterol.
Dates are naturally high in sugar which may boost energy levels. They also contain a good amount of fiber, antioxidants, and help promote bone health.
As you can see, the base of an RXBAR contains a good amount of nutrients. And as far as the additional ingredients for each individual flavor go- they’ve made sure to keep those clean as well. These protein bars are a rare find in the processed world with no additives, sugar, or preservatives.
RXBAR Review- The Pros and Cons
I’ll be the first to say that these protein bars are amazing, but they’re not without their faults.
Pros:
- Healthy and clean (even Paleo friendly)
- Nutrient dense
- Convenient grab and go option
- Flavor variety
- Good amount of protein (for after workouts)
Cons:
- Sticky consistency
- Price
So, we’ve already covered some of the benefits of RXBARS. Let’s talk about the cons. The dates in these bars do make them quite sticky and chewy (as in they can easily get stuck in your teeth). Obviously this is not desirable, but it’s a small price to pay for enjoying dates.
The price point is also a factor when considering whether or not to go with this option. The average bar costs around $2.00. You may be wondering why RXBARS are so expensive and I believe it’s solely because of their choice of ingredients. Unfortunately, healthy ingredients (especially nuts and dates) are going to cost you a good deal more than unnatural fillers and sugar.
If these are pricier than you’re looking for, please keep in mind that you can often find them on sale (both online and in store) and be sure to keep an eye out for coupons!
All in all, this is a wonderful company that truly desires to create healthy and wholesome products to help fuel our bodies. I’m grateful for their vision and commitment to stick with whole foods instead of going the cheaper route to make more money. The small amount of communication that I had with their employees makes me believe that it’s truly a solid company from the inside out.
I hope that this RXBAR review was helpful for you and that you decide to give them a try. You won’t be disappointed!
