July 8, 2021 Comments : 3

Ice cream has been one of the only foods that I’ve missed since eliminating dairy from my diet a few years ago. Thankfully there are some dairy free alternatives out there that are just as tasty, including ones like this chocolate peanut butter banana ice cream that you can make right at home. You can enjoy this delicious creamy cold dessert as a sweet treat without the slightest bit of guilt!

How To Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana “Ice Cream”

To prepare your chocolate peanut butter banana ice cream, begin by adding your milk to a high powered food processor or blender. Next add in your frozen banana pieces, 1 Tbsp peanut butter, and remaining ingredients. Blend together until smooth and creamy.

This will create a soft serve style “ice cream”. If you prefer it to be a bit more frozen like traditional ice cream simply place in the freezer for an hour minimum. Drizzle extra peanut butter on top and garnish with optional banana slices and cacao nibs. Yum!

Do You Have To Freeze Bananas For Ice Cream?

Making this frozen treat will require some planning ahead. Yes, freezing those bananas beforehand is an absolute must to ensure the ice cream texture and consistency. Simply slice up your banana into 1 inch chuncks and place them in a freezer bag for around two hours and you’ll be ready to blend!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream Benefits

If you’re wondering if this specific chocolate peanut butter nice cream recipe is actually good for you, I’ve got good news! Bananas have no fat or cholesterol, but are a great source of some vitamins and minerals. They contain 17% of your daily value of Vitamin C, 12% dietary fiber, as well as a healthy amount of potassium and magnesium. Bananas are also known to promote eye and bone health, and reduce blood pressure.

Cocoa is a source of antioxidants which fight off free radicals that damage our body’s cells. It also provides the body with magnesium, potassium, copper, zinc, and manganese. Adding some cocoa powder into your diet is an easy way to satisfy that chocolate craving without the added sugar.

Natural peanut butter also boasts some healthy benefits such as being a good source of healthy fats with no cholesterol and a low sodium content. This delicious nut butter also packs some antioxidants and can lower your risk of Type II diabetes. There was even a scientific study done proving that regular consumption of natural peanut butter (within the recommended allowances) can lower your mortality rate! As a border line peanut butter addict this was music to my ears!

Hi Laura! I haven’t tried that yet, but it should work just fine, you’ll just likely have to add more almond milk to the food processor/blendor to allow it to blend properly and get the right consistency. Hope that helps and thanks for reaching out!
