Pineapple Turkey Burgers

July 1, 2021 Leave a Comment

These Pineapple Turkey Burgers are quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. With a unique Asian spin, they are bursting with flavor! The heavenly aroma of fresh ginger combined with lime and pineapple make them a tasty alternative to the traditional burger.

How to Make Pineapple Turkey Burgers

To begin making your pineapple turkey burgers gather up your ingredients and heat your stovetop (or grill) to medium heat. In a medium sized bowl combine the turkey, lime zest and juice, coconut aminos (a paleo soy sauce replacement that will give these burgers a teriyaki flavor), almond flour, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Shape into 4 patties and add the coconut oil (or ghee) to the pan.

Place the patties in the pan and cook about 4 minutes on each side to brown nicely and then an additional few minutes with the lid on to fully cook through. Make sure juices run clear and the meat is no longer pink.

While your burgers are cooking slice your avocado and create your mayo. In a small bowl or cup add mayo, lime juice, and chipotle powder and stir to combine. (You may also use sriracha in place of the chipotle powder, but a Paleo version of sriracha sauce can be difficult to locate unless made from scratch like this one.)

Remove patties from the pan and add pineapple slices to slightly brown. Assemble your burgers! Top with pineapple, avocado slices, a drizzle of chipotle lime mayo, and diced green onion. Enjoy!

Why Won’t My Turkey Burgers Stay Together?

Creating the proper turkey burger consistency can be a bit tricky at times. Ground turkey is a more delicate meat than ground beef and for this reason doesn’t hold together as easily. If your pineapple turkey burgers seem to be falling apart try adding an extra binder, such as a bit more almond flour or a very small amount of coconut flour which is an extremely absorbant flour.

What Toppings Do You Put On A Turkey Burger?

My family and I enjoy topping these specific “teriyaki” pineapple turkey burgers with grilled or sauteed pineapple rings, sliced avocado, chipotle lime mayo, and diced green onion. If you’re not adhereing to a strictly Paleo diet you may also try adding a slice of cheese (pepper jack, swiss, or cheddar would be tasty options) or some grilled sweet/red onions and peppers!
