16 Nursery Bible Verses For Your Little One

I never realized the importance of filling a home with Scripture until I became a parent. Nursery Bible verses are a wonderful way to share God’s Word with our little ones right from the very beginning.

As parents, we need to be diligently spending time in prayer and Bible reading each day. These God breathed truths speak life to our weary souls, guide us in wisdom, and provide comfort and peace when life begins to unravel.

The further along I get in my parenting journey the more I realize the need to faithfully pour Scripture into the lives of our children every chance we get. If that means hanging up some Bible verses for baby’s nursery as a gentle nudge to do so then I’m all for it!

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 has become a daily reminder of what exactly God has called me to in my role as momma. Raising precious children is a tremendous blessing that we all too often take for granted as the busyness and distractions take over.  No child is too young to start hearing Scripture. My hope is that these Bible verses for babies and children below will be an encouragement to your family and help point your children to the Man who died to be their Savior.

Nursery Bible Verses

16 Nursery Bible Verses

Below are some nursery Bible verses that I have shared with my children and memorized. Some of them focus on God’s protection over us while others remind us to keep God first in our lives. I’d encourage you to read and explain them to your children. They would also be wonderful for them to memorize once they are old enough. (All Scripture verses are ESV unless otherwise noted.)

Bible Verses For Baby Girl

Each of these nursery Bible verses are applicable for both girls and boys, but some are more popular for one gender than others.

Jeremiah 1:5  

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” (NIV)

This one is a sweet reminder that God specifically created each one of us for a purpose and knew us intimately before we were even born.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

The previous eight verses of Ecclesiastes 3 speak of there being a time and a season for everything- a reminder to patiently wait on God’s perfect timing even during the difficult phases.

Deuteronomy 6:5

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

It’s so easy for us to get caught up in the busyness of life. May we learn to lay aside the distractions and seek to love the Lord with our whole hearts.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

This passage may just be a mom’s best friend, but can also bring about peace for our children. When we lay those burdens down at Jesus’s feet and begin to fully trust Him, we can have genuine rest and comfort.

Psalm 145:8-9

“The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.”

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Such a short and simple verse with a powerful truth. Our God is still on the throne and we can safely trust in Him even when the world around us seems to be spiraling out of control.

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

Nursery Bible Verses For Baby Boy

Here are some verses for a baby boy that would be perfect Scripture for a nursery.

1 John 4:19

“We love because he first loved us.”

This nursery Bible verse is a beautiful way to transition into sharing the gospel with little ones. Share of Christ’s immense love for your child, but don’t stop there! Share what exactly it is that He did to offer us all a sweet gift of pure grace that we will never come near deserving.

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Emotions are a good thing, but were never meant to be led with. When we trust God with all of our hearts instead of our wavering feelings we can rest assured that He will faithfully guide us each step of the way.

2 Corinthians 6:18

“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

Psalm 139:13-14

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

This is most likely the absolute most popular Bible verse for a baby’s nursery, and for good reason! This entire chapter so beautifully describes God’s thoughts toward us, how He intricately created us, and loves us beyond measure- a precious truth for a little one to grab hold of.

Ephesians 4:32

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

It’s never too early to begin instilling character traits in our children. The simple acts of kindness and forgiveness can go a long way and point us directly to Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf.

Hebrews 6:19

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (NIV)

The hope of Jesus truly does anchor a soul. We can remain firm in our faith and rest in the promises of God’s Word when the trials of life arise.

Matthew 19:14

“But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Somewhere along the way we seem to lose our childlike faith. Jesus’s words remind us of the importance of children- their innocence, faith, and ability to fully trust, and encourage us to be like them.

Deuteronomy 31:8

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

It’s only natural to fear in certain circumstances, but nothing compares to the comfort found in having a personal relationship with God. He will walk us through the stormy trials and uncertainties, holding our hand all the while, if we are willing to follow His lead.

What Is A Good Bible Verse For A New Baby?

If you’re looking for some additional Bible verses for a new baby I would suggest any verse that is also good for an older child or adult as a great place to start =) . All of Scripture is profitable for each of us and was put there for a purpose.

Many will choose to focus on verses that speak of God’s love for us and our worth in His eyes. There is nothing wrong with this, the depth of love God holds for each and every one of us is unfathomable! However, I believe that it is equally important to also teach our children about God’s character and our sin nature. Begin sharing the gospel and hope of Christ with them as early as possible.

What Does God Say About Babies?

Children are so precious in God’s sight and His Word has some important reminders of their value.

  • Psalm 127:3-5 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
  • 1 Samuel 1:27-28 For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him
  • Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
  • Mark 10:16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
  • Mark 9:36-37 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
  • Luke 18:15-17 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

    This is Psalm 127 not 137.
